Relief Sale 2010!

July 25, 2010

Look at me go! I’m making another post so soon!

The dates for Relief Sale ‘010 (Michiana, of course) are September 24th and 25th.

There are two empty seats in the Honda. Just sayin’.

Also, this year the quilt auction starts at 7 am instead of 6 am, Saturday morning! I think I might care more if I could afford the quilt auction anyways.

Hey, if I keep making new paragraphs when I don’t need to it looks like I’m writing more than I actually am!

Wow.

Well, Kids

May 7, 2010

Themennonitetable is leaving the country for a month starting tomorrow, and will not be posting. It will be pretty much like this entire last week, multiplied by four. Except people will be swearing at me in High German instead of American English. Ah yes! an opportunity for learning!

Readers and visitors, I hope your May is fun and goes by without incident.

My last advice for a while: check out some Rainier Marie Rilke. Check out some Frank O’Hara. If at all possible, go to a Mediterranean restaurant.

Cheers, ‘wiedersehen, tchu-uesss!

I Lost My Camera!

March 30, 2010

Well, folks, Mennotable has lost her camera. Which is a shame, because I was going to refer to it in a post as a “Mennonite scanner” just to show you all how cheap and folksy Mennos can be. Well, now that joke’s ruined and I lost all the campy photos I took at the last church potluck.

Do you know what else this means? I can’t do the Menno Reviews featuring thrift store items that I promised you all a few posts ago. No camera, no outstanding and un-copyrighted “ACTION SHOTS.” Also, all the cartoons I make will be crappy MS Paint jobs.

Faced with this cold, hard fact, my blog will now take the direction that it arguably should have adopted from the get-go; until further notice, I’ll be writing delightful little blips about Menno essentials. Like homemade ice cream!

Hey! I’ll write about homemade ice cream for next time!

Don’t abandon all hope before you have a chance to read:

THE MENNONITE TABLE ON TWITTER!!!!1

March 23, 2010

The Mennonite Table has gone past the point of no return. I now am the shamefilled owner of an active Twitter page. In an unprecedented move, which seems to suggest that I never understood the reason for the twitter account in the first place, I’m giving all 5 or so of you faithful readers access to this page!

If I’m not too neglectful, fun stuff might pop up on it every now and then. Like NOW!

The Bad News/Good News Game!

March 7, 2010

Bad News First: As you all know, I botched Relief Sale Week!!! by neglecting to post about the Relief Sale this past week!

Good News: We will have a second Relief Sale Week!!! OMG is like a dream come true!! Two whole weeks of RELIEF SALE WEEK!!!!11

In the meantime, because I’m using a computer that doesn’t have MS Paint (which is vital to Relief Sale Week) I’m posting a small, yet fun something. How’s about introducing ya’ll to an idea for a brand spankin’ new Mennonite Table segment you’ll look forward to in the upcoming weeks? YES??

The new segment is “Mennonite Reviews.” In this fun new segment, I will provide reviews for items purchased at Mennonite thrift stores! This segment will provide up-to-date views on dated items while showing the world what a cheap, yet compulsive shopper I am! Yeayah!

I guess if anyone feels any particular way about this new move, feel free to leave a comment.

And so…kick back, relax, and enjoy the SECOND WHOOOOLE WEEK of RELIEF SALE WEEK, coming up THIS WEEK AGAIN!

Disclaimer!

January 29, 2010

Hello! I guess it would be best to start this blog off with a couple disclaimers. I am not aware of the existence of any other group or publication named “The Mennonite Table.” (Because I’m a serious blogger, I googled it once to make extra sure!) If it turns out I’m wrong about this, I want just want to say: this blog is not in any way connected to any group or other publication by that title.

This blog is not sponsored by any Mennonite or Anabaptist group or institution, least of all Mennonite Church USA.

I am not a historian, theologian, or sociologist. The purpose of this blog is merely to give a description of those things that have been important in my experience as a Mennonite girl-child. The issues or experiences brought up in this blog are the result of my own upbringing and experiences, and should be taken as such. If you feel like I’m misrepresenting the Mennonite experience as you have had it, you’re probably right. Start your own blog and make a passive-aggressive post about it.

Ooh, that was intense. Wow, you’re still reading? Well…

I hope we can have fun!
